Sir Gawain Character Traits

A great Knight named Gawain was a courtly lover and a man of integrity. He is supposedly the greatest Knight King Arthur has. He was a man of morals; in addition, he went by the code of chivalry. Gawain was Arthur’s nephew and one of his most loyal Knights. One of Gawain flaws proves that he loves his own life so much that he will lie in order to protect himself. A mysterious visitor shows up at Author’s courts looking for one knight in particular. The Green Knight shows up at Author’s courts uninvited looking for one Knight in particular named Gawain. He says that he comes in friendship, not wanting to fight, but the game he proposes is quite deadly. The Green Knight appearance appears wild, green, and has a long beard. His behavior is more so supernatural and outspoken. He expects Sir Gawain to go to great lengths to hold up his end of their bargain. She gave him kisses every day and tried to give him different gifts. One of the gifts he did take was the slash, as a result for keeping him alive. Another test was when he went through many dangers on the way to the Green Chapel and came across the castle. The last test was when he went to the Green Chapel, and the Knight was getting ready to strike him. The Green Knight strikes his axe 3 times because Sir Gawain kept dodging the axe. On the third strike he tells Sir Gawain that when he chopped his head off he never flinched or trembled. The Green Knight declares that he’s definitely a better man than Gawain.
