Sir Rowan is a Fantasy/adventure book by Chuck Black. This fantasy book is a world full of knights, adventure and bravery, in a kingdom of hidden danger. Treachery lurks around every corner but good will triumph over the evil in the darkest parts of the kingdom. The unworthy are made worthy and accomplish great deed an feats of greatness and defeat evil. Sir Rowan tells the story of a young tournament fighter named Rowan who is taught by a knight of the Prince , by the name of Sir Aldwyn, the way of the sword. He also teaches him to love and respect the King across the sea. After he wins multiple fights, Rowan becomes arrogant and forsakes all that Sir Aldwyn taught him about the King. Throughout his life it seemed to him that his body and mind were meant to fight with a sword. During his youth, Rowan was a naive thrill seeker with a love for watching the tournaments of knights. When he was old enough to fight in the tournaments himself he gladly participated in them. Soon out of his own skill, he becomes arrogant and self centred person. This would eventually lead to his downfall. This book takes place in the kingdom of Arrethtrae as well as all the other books in this series. In Arrethtrae there a northern region known as the united cities of Cameria. Cameria is a foressted area with mountains on the east and a valley to the west. This region contains five cities, Elttaes, Aimon, Berwick, Kroywen, the capital, and Laos where most of the story takes place. The time period of Sir Rowan as well as the other books is during the medieval ages. I connected to this book because of the theme. I love knight's, adventures and all kinds of swords. The underlying message of the book is prophecy and how it will come true no matter how much you don’t want it to. The entire series is an allegory to the bible and the knights of the Prince represent Christians; the King represents God; and the Prince represents Jesus.
