1. The six standards of professionalism are: 1. Promoting child development and learning. The importance of this standard is to have knowledge of Child Development (ages/ stages), developmentally appropriate practice, and have appropriate approaches. For example, make every child welcome and become active in one’s community. 2. The second standard of professionalism is building family and community relationships. The importance of this standard is to get families involved, understand the characteristics of children’s families and communities. Also, learning about families’ child-rearing practices will help with behavioral problems. 3. Observing, documenting, and Assessing in order to support children and families. The last standard is becoming a professional. The importance of this standard is to continue learning, engage in ethical practice, and advocate for children and families. 2. The first situation would be if a child stands on a table. “If you stand on the table, then you will hurt yourself. “ The second situation would if a child is making noises during naptime. “ If you are making noises, then your friends will not be able to sleep.” 3. Adult-centered perceptions of misbehavior mainly focus on the result a child’s behavior has on the adult. Basically, the children’s actions are estimated by the adult’s mood, desires, and needs. Adults also weight the effect of a child’s behavior depending on how serious the situation is. For example, if a child rips an old book the parent may just reprimand the child or may not attention at all. However, if a child rips a new book, then the parent will be angry with the child. Child-centered perceptions of inappropriate behavior focuses on the well-being of the child. Children learn to be responsible and adults let children gain skills by being part of an activity rather someone doing the work for them. Guidance developmentally means to know to child development. Guidance developmentally focuses on appropriate planning and knowing the stages of each child. For instance, a teacher will decorate the room according to each child’s culture and provide activities that will teach children about respectfulness. Teachers make sure to set an environment that has appropriate learning experience for each child. Knowing each child’s age, and stage will help teachers know what can kind of activities to provide. Positive guidance makes sure that each child learns to do the right thing, even when no one is looking. For example, a child learns to say “thank you.” Child A throws away the trash for Child B. Then, Child B says “thank you.” Child B was taught to say thank you when someone was nice. Additionally, professionals have a positive view on misbehavior and teach children to learn from their mistakes. Approaching children with positive guidance will make children feel strong, confident, and learn to have a good self-image. Professionals see that children have a full potential rather than seeing children’s weakness. Also, guiding children means to teach children about self-direction, relationships, and self-actualization. Positive guidance also supports children and does not control children.
