Politicization of Slave Women Sexuality in Brazil Politicization is the view of either economic, social, spiritual, theological, legal or even scientific issue in a political perspective that is as a result of deliberate action in which individuals turn out to be politically active in such an issue (Burdick, 2013, p8). Politicization of women, therefore, means that women are looked at in a way that portrays their political influence. It tackles mostly slavery and the way to freedom. At that time, the Portuguese were the colonial masters and opened a contract system for the extraction of rich minerals like diamonds and precious stones. It is these contracts that assured domination over the Portuguese to choose Kings. The most famous and a holder of success in the diamond extraction at that time was Joao Fernandes (Corrêa & Khanna, 2015, p77). Joao used corrupt systems of extractions which led to the discovery of rich and new beds of minerals which led to the accumulation of wealth which was close enough to rival the Portuguese crown. The wealth together with the consequent power was perceived to be threatening to the crown, and this led to Joao's eviction from the mines to return to Lisbon. Xica having identified that herself, the rise to political power is based on that trait which Xica uses as a prowess. This reveals the depression of racist and sexist approach of the predicaments that black women faced in early Brazilian society.
