A Harsh Reality Slavery first started in Virginia in 1619. It was when a boat named the white land came in with 20 kidnap africans, that is when the controversy began. America did not have any laws regarding slaves therefore they gave them land and food in exchange for their free hard labor. As profits grew so did the colonist views of not wanting to let the africans go. The problem for the Arian is that they were not born in America so they were not able to be set free, that is why they had to work very hard. After many years, many states decided if they were pro/against slavery or in other words named border states. They have in fact already ordered the police to enslave and kidnap the Africans of Boston. Therefore they must be aware, because if they are not they will not have the liberty that they desire that is why they should shun them at all cost. ( Document E). This helps us understand that there are many problems with the way that the government wanted to obtain and keep the slaves no matter the cost. They did not care if they abused them, therefore people that were against this idea believed that they had to inform Africans of the dangers that they ran. Garrison states, that the Constitution says that they protect everyone as long as they are free, but which can be seen as a lie. There are many people that debate the idea that slavery is neither said nor denied in the constitution, but there are words that clearly state that slaves should be protected. He goes on to further state that American (Africans) are being enslaved and considered merchandise that need to be ordered around. The Government are making the slaves lives possible and ruining their life. That is why there will be no Union like everyone wanted. In order for there to be union, everyone must be EQUAL. The Slaves chains must be broken NOT just in America but all over the world. That day will everyone will be united in a Union.(Documen C). In this important document, we can connect it with the rest of the documents. In this document, Garrison strongly believed that slave laws and the concept of slavery in general is not to be played with and meant to be abolished for good. They have laws that were not reasonable at all and went against the Constitution. Americans say that they wanted Union and freedom, but many of them were not giving those basic rights to the African people.
