Zavala 1 To seek for Money,Power,and Freedom are the predominant result of racial segregation upon an individual's conscious. Many African Americans that lived during the period of slavery were traumatized by the idea that they lived under the control of white people. Many individuals fought for freedom but many ran away from problems. As shown in the novel "Song of Solomon" by Toni Morrison antagonist Macon Dead being a wealthy business man tends to fight for his own riches rather than his race. But to Guitar Bains being exposed to such violence during his childhood he was destined to take a “fight" to gain civil rights for African Americans. The idea of "Flight" unfolds Solomon intentions to seek for freedom. Solomon ideology to escape slavery was to "fly" away from it. In pg 6 "O Sugarman done fly away" illustrates the idea of Solomon rejecting slavery when he flew back to Africa . Solomon perspective towards racism is different from Macon and Guitar, While Macon seems to hate his race and wanting to be a dictator for his community and Guitar seeking revenge for black people, Solomon isolates himself from racial problems while leaving his family behind. Solomon's flight tends to demonstrate Solomon rejecting the injustice of American Society, and also how his flight had a positive and negative consequence. His flight reveals the idea that the only way to escape slavery without any violence was to fly away from it. He flew away but that just reveals the idea that children are left behind. In pg 304 "Solomon don’t leave me."He must have been her lover". Explains the idea of Flight in which it causes pain upon others ,Solomon had left his wife and children behind when he tried to escape slavery which caused his wife to go insane while looking for him. Being African American living through slavery,was a harsh living condition which caused many individuals to seek for freedom by staying away from such violence. Solomon took personal actions without any remorse for his family in order to be free. For African Americans during the period of slavery taking care of their family wasn't their priority,being free from slavery
