SNAP Case Study Life has the power to throw many unknown circumstances into an individual’s daily routine. Many lose their jobs or discover ailments in their health, and they do not know how to overcome these obstacles. The government-run Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program offers a safe haven for those unable to meet their monthly needs. In order for John to be eligible for SNAP, he must meet certain resource and income tests. The SNAP website offers a pre-scanning tool that allows John to take note if he is eligible for food stamps, given his current conditions. Based on my research, John is eligible for SNAP because he has a health condition and has lost his job. He will receive an allotment of one hundred and ninety-four dollars each month to cover his food costs. On the contrary, John must actively be looking for work and must jump at any opportunity offered to him. In regards to applying for SNAP, an eligible applicant can apply online, over the phone, or through a paper application. A paper copy must be sent to the local SNAP office, and applicants may dial 1-800-221-5689 to apply. When registering online, John would want to go to fns.usda.gov and click how to apply. From there, he would be directed to choose a state and fill out personal information regarding his living conditions. …show more content…
