Taylor Swift’s song “Snow On The Beach” featuring Lana Del Ray tells of two people falling in love at the same time. Swift puts this by saying “The song is about falling in love with someone at the same time as they’re falling in love with you, in this sort of in this cataclysmic, faded moment where you realize someone feels exactly the same way that you feel, at the same moment.” While it talks about two people that are only one degree of separation. They are both so close yet so far. Later verse talks about how life is hard for the narrator but when they saw their lover time stopped. In the second verse, the narrator talks about how they are incredibly happy with their relationship. The bridge or the three verses talks about how the narrator doesn’t want to “jinx” their love and how their relationship feels almost unreal. A prime example of the use of figurative language is the line “Snow On The Beach” that is repeated multiple times in this song. This line is used as a metaphor to symbolize the relationship between the narrator and their partner. In addition the song uses imagery to help convey the story. A line that is an example of imagery is “But it’s coming down, no sound, it’s all around.” This use of imagery not only tells the listeners about the sounds and how the snow looks, it also represents how the narrator feels about their love. Lastly, this piece of poetry uses allusions to make references throughout it. One line says “Now I’m All For You like Janet”, this is a reference to Janet Jackson’s Song “All For You.” Additionally, many lines throughout the song reference other Taylor Swift songs.
