In Snow White by the Brothers Grimm and Cinderella, the archetype damsel in distress appears when Cinderella and Snow white are at risk, but end up getting saved by their prince. The damsel in distress archetype reveals the significance of how even if one is going through something terrible, pain is only temporary and it’s not necessary to rely on yourself to fix things when it is possible to get help from other people. Snow White is a damsel in distress because she is constantly in danger, but ends up getting saved. In the book, Snow White is saved from suffering as shown when the Evil Queen gives her the poisoned apple, and when the Prince saves her from the glass coffin. She tries multiple ways and they never work until she dresses up as an old woman and gives her a poisoned apple which ends up killing Snow white “Snow White longed for the beautiful apple, and as she saw the peasant woman eating a piece of it she could no longer refrain but stretched out her hand and took the poisoned half. But no sooner had she taken a morsel of it into her mouth than she fell to the earth as dead.” (Grimm 224). The Evil Queen has finally found a way that would kill Snow White, and Snow White falls for the trick and eats the poisoned apple which results in her death. Snow White avoids death multiple times throughout the story, which shows that she is prone to being in distress. The Evil Queen tries so many different ways to kill her, and every time Snow White falls for her tricks. She falls into a routine of tricks and keeps falling for them until she's presumed dead, making her a damsel in distress. Later on in the story, the Prince finds Snow White in the coffin and sees how beautiful she was. He asks the 7 Dwarfs if he could take her and put her on display for everyone. In the Movie, Cinderella gets pulled out of her struggle with help from others such as her Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming. In the movie Cinderella, Cinderella lives with her step-family. She is constantly treated unfairly and like the maid of the house. Towards the middle of the movie Cinderella and her, Stepfamily gets an invite to the prince's ball, Her Stepmother tells Cinderella that if she finishes all her chores she would be able to go to the ball. Cinderella comes down all dressed up, Her stepsisters were in shock. Her stepmother starts talking to her and saying “How very clever. These beads, they give it just the right touch. Don't you think so, Drizella?”(00:40:28-00:43:14). Cinderella was ecstatic to wear her new dress until her step mother and step sisters start to rip it up. Her stepmother first talks about her necklace, and her step-sister Drizzlela breaks it. Soon after, her other sister Anastasia starts ripping her dress leaving her with nothing to wear to the ball. Cinderella tries hard to be good enough for her stepfamily and does everything for them, yet they still treat her poorly, and when Cinderella thinks she finally was included in the family, they just end up ruining the experience.
