The Snowtown murders The Snowtown murders also referred to as the ‘bodies – in – barrels murder’ has been one of the most horrifying serial killing acts to occur in the Commonwealth of Australia, as well as, has become one of the most longest and most publicised trials to occur in the South Australian history. This has been the one of the most terrifying series of homicides committed by four friends called John Bunting, Robert Wagner, James Vlassakis and Mark Haydon over the period of 7 years, while the first one being committed on the 22nd of August 1992 and the last one being committed on the 14th of May 1999, in the state of South Australia. Snowtown was just the place where the remains of 8 victims were found by the South Australian Police in six plastic barrels in an unused bank vault. According to the a report presented by the AGE ‘The notoriety of the murders have led to a short-term economic boost from tourists visiting Snowtown but created a lasting stigma the town of Snowtown would be "forever stigmatised" due to its relationship to the murders. Shortly after the discovery of the bodies in Snowtown, the community discussed changing the town's name to "Rose town," but no further actions were taken.
