Throughout the years, there have been multiple methods of public shaming, ranging from a criminal being forced to hold a sign about a crime committed all the way to millions of comments, bullying and threatening someone for something as small as an insensitive joke. In the informational book So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson, multiple public figures and private citizens talked about their experiences of being publicly shamed, through media or through something like a court trial. Jon Ronson had gone through an experience revolving this himself where he had no other option but to post a video which led to the shaming of a couple of people. There wasn’t any reasoning or context that would’ve supported the use of shaming her, if anything, the person who hurt her should’ve been shamed instead. Linda, also known as Lindsay’s mother, was very troubled about the situation and how it was treated since she never read the transcript of the examination since she “couldn’t face it.” Meanwhile, Lindsay had told her that “she was disgusted and very embarrassed about the lawyer making her hold up her underwear” in front of the whole court for no reason other than to shame her to make her testimony less believable. This helps support the fact that shaming should be used with good intentions while also knowing the context since it shows that using these methods negatively, in a situation where there shouldn’t have been shaming in the first place, can have a major affect on someone and their life. As seen, if shaming was used appropriately with the knowledge of what had happened, Lindsay wouldn’t have felt as bad as she was and might’ve not have considered taking her out of
