At a clip of sixty four new residents each and every day, Raleigh has seen sizable amounts of growth in recent years and has quickly progressed into a major ethnically diverse metropolis. However, with only one current professional sports franchise (Carolina Hurricanes) in the area, the Triangle’s two million residents and counting, are long overdue for another professional team, and the region’s ten colleges and universities have inundated the region with a soccer craving generation of millennials, eager to follow a nearby club. Raleigh should be awarded a Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion franchise because of its blossoming persona on the national stage, its rampant community support which includes a soccer starved millennial generation, and its plans to turn the city’s downtown into a soccer frenzy, uniting the entire region along the way. …show more content…
Sports franchises are also corporations, thus a stable economy is needed to sustain them (in terms of ticket sales and sponsorships) and provide the ability for growth in the future. Raleigh’s economy is one of opulence for business: the area boasts business costs which are eighteen percent below the national average and a population where forty-two percent of adults have a college degree; consequently, the area also exults the sixth fastest net migration rate in America over the past five years (Badenhausen). Furthermore, the Research Triangle Park (RTP) houses 39,000 high-tech workers and counting, extending the economic capacity of the region and drawing in more intellectually adept workers to an already intelligent area. Clearly, rational people are moving to the Triangle, boding well for the future of business in the area and for Raleigh’s chances to obtain an MLS
