There is some proof that people enjoyed kicking balls around as far back as 1004 B.C, when people would use animal hide to make their ball. When I first thought about how soccer impacted my life, nothing really came to mind. I was that kid who mostly looked forward to the end of the game snacks and bringing around the goal jar. But when I actually began thinking about more about playing soccer I realized that soccer was the first place where I was fully submerged into something completely new. I learned how to make friends, how be a leader, and how to have good sportsmanship. These are all things that have made me into the person I am today and it all began on the soccer field.
Soccer is a beautiful game in which cultures unite to play and set aside differences. The field is a contact zone, which is a "social spaces where disparate cultures meet, clash, and grapple with each other" (Pratt). The dominant and subdominant cultures of the team clash to see what kind of strategy will work to win the match. A form of transculturation occurred in the process. Would a soccer team be able to share the same field as a football team in a bigger city such as Atlanta? Soccer is a sport which is rapidly gaining popularity, and in my opinion, it might take some of the popularity away from baseball and basketball. With the rapidly increasing number of children and teenagers who are both participating and watching soccer matches, soccer’s popularity has become obvious. While soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, the target audience is still not as large as that of many other sports including football, basketball, baseball, etc.
In this day and age with professional athletes being at the top of the social spectrum, youth sports have gotten very popular. “More than 26 million children ages 6 to 17 played team sports in 2014(Rosenwald).” Youth sports are very popular because it brings the great feeling of being on a team. When you are on a team you feel like you can do anything together, and nothing is stopping you. There are also many flaws in youth sports.
Soccer is an international sport that is for many centuries and decades. It helps to release the stress from the job, homework and college. Also, preserve the children from negative influences such as drugs, tobacco, and alcohol. The children will grow with a healthy lifestyle.
