While their stories may be unique and distinct, they both represent a shared history that is full of pain, suffering and resilience. In this essay, we will explore the contrasting upbringings, diverging social and political views, and contrasting experiences of discrimination and prejudice that each of them faced Alfons Heck and Helen Waterford were two children who despite living during the same era and in the same country experienced different things due to the divisions created by the group of Nazis. Alfons Heck was raised in a Nazi-supporting home and was taught to idolize Hitler and Nazi people . He was also encouraged to join various Nazi organizations and took part in Hitler Youth activities. Heck, who was a member of the Hitler Youth, was an ardent supporter of the Nazi regime . He even went so far as to join the Waffen SS and participated in several battles during the war. In contrast, Waterford was a Jew who was forcibly displaced to the Auschwitz concentration camp due to the Nazis anti-Semitic policies. During her time in the camp she became a member of the underground resistance movement, actively working against the Nazi regime. Though Heck and Waterford were both products of the same era Their political and social perspectives were in direct opposition to one another with Heck supporting the Nazi party and Waterford actively opposing it.
