The test I chose was the social attitudes test. I chose this test because I find a lot of prejudice, discrimination, and stereotypes are most commonly seen in race, gender and sexual orientation. I figured this would be interesting to see my social attitudes towards groups that are typically the most discriminated against. The test that I was administered was the Implicit Social Cognition on the Internet test. The test measured my automatic attitudes towards Black and White people. An automatic attitude is the very first evaluation of a person or an object, activated automatically with no need for conscious intention to evaluate that person or object. They described this as an automatic preference for White over Black people, because I rated Chinese symbols as ‘pleasant’ more often when the symbols appeared after photos of White people than after photos of Black people. I don’t find myself racist at all and see White people and Black people the same, so these results don’t surprise me. I would have expected these results, and would expect to get a similar like score on a different association test. However, I would’ve been completely shocked if there was a drastic difference in them or I had more unpleasant feelings than pleasant feelings towards either race. I am not sure how I would have reacted if I had a significantly higher unpleasant response, I would have probably been upset with myself for having those automatic attitudes and not being able to realize it. I try to look at all races the same and not have any preference over any race and these results show that I don’t, so I am happy with these results. I am glad these results are the way they are because I would be confused and concerned because that is not the attitude that I explicitly or consciously
