Social class is important because the duke chose Lord Angelo instead of Escalus to take care of Vienna while the duke was away due to the fact that Lord Angelo has the royal blood that the duke has, “My very worthy cousin…” (V, 5.1, 1) meaning both Angelo and the duke are somehow related through royal blood.
