After listening to the interactive oral, I found it quite interesting how Marquez manipulated characters to provide a social commentary on Latin American culture. Throughout this approach, Marquez intended to limit the influence of emotion, to make a statement about the social norms; specifically, the relation that was drawn upon was the relation between men and women.
