Imperialism is a practice that involves a country using its stronger power and influence through colonization, use of military force, or other means of control over weaker nations or territories. It is often driven by the desire for power, resources, and markets. Although supporters of imperialism tried to justify it by saying it brought progression to less developed regions, it is widely known for its harness and its negative impact on the people and economies of the colonized regions. One of the most damaging consequences was the loss of variety and freedom of cultures in the colonies. The British forced their own culture and values on the colonies, leading to the elimination of the other original cultures, languages, beliefs, and customs. For example, in India, the British imposed their language and education system which made it so there was a decline in Indian languages and traditions, as well as their overall practice of life. This attack on cultures has made it so there are still problems today that lead back to it.
Another big aspect of the social impact of British imperialism was the rise of racism and discrimination. The British considered themselves better than the people they were oppressing, viewing them as completely inferior.
