To be sure, there are some weaknesses in the book. The book is a collection of ideas that the author had jotted down so, the contain in the book are not related to each other which make difficult for the reader to grasp what the author want to say. There is no proper beginning and proper ending in the book which makes the book a bit incomplete. Nevertheless the book provides a valuable and absorbing window into aging. Although, the author discusses more about dependence, disability, loneliness, ageism, it is the thing most of the old people face.
Many people are supported in their homes by people who work along side the health and social care service such as social workers, nursers ,doctor and care givers or they may get support from their family members and friends. An elderly person may choose to stay in their own homes instead of a residential care home while seeking help and support from others, however this can lead to potential opportunities for abuse happening to the person who Is being looked after. When an individual is getting support at home by a carer, the individual being cared for is vulnerable and defenseless and therefor this makes them a target for abuse, another example is abuse by strangers, when an elderly person lives alone they are at risk of people calling at the door and then gaining access to their homes, they may steal items from them or mistreat them or cause intimidation. A person who is vulnerable and living alone are at risk of physical and sexual because there is no one there to stop this abuse from happening.
While a disability isn’t a death sentence, it isn’t a walk in the park either. People with disabilities struggle to find work, fit in, and enjoy certain aspects of life, most people enjoy. The same applies to the elderly. As age is subject to increase, the body is also subject to decay. Older people often deal with medical issues that are completely out of their hands.
The United States government is doing a surprisingly little amount for the million of elderly who are being abused everyday. An affective abuse policy increasing elderly protection services is immensely needed. The public should also be informed about elderly abuse, and the individuals who commit the crime of abusing the elderly should have stricter punishments. People in society can help towards pushing for a more goal driven elder justice policy. In the article, “The Elderly Must Be Protected From Abuse,” author Robert B. Blancato explains seven goals which should be addressed towards elderly justice.

Senior Care and Pain Management One of the fears of growing old is that chronic pain will be a part of everyday life. While many seniors do deal with pain as a complication of illness or injury, pain is not a normal part of aging and does not need to be so. There are two major categories of pain: acute pain and chronic pain. Acute pain is pronounced and has a short duration. This type of pain is the body 's way of telling you there is something wrong.

As people age, health becomes more of a concern as people more prone to health problems. Department of Health and Human Services states that approximately 5 million seniors suffer from some form of neglect, elder abuse, or exploitation each year. These numbers are absolutely abhorrent and continue to increase each year. It is thought that for every case of elder abuse that actually gets reported, another 23 do not. These numbers are not only frightening, after all, we trust the care of our aging loved ones to these nursing homes and assisted living facilities, but they are also shocking and something needs to be done.
