The constitution was a large process and is the “Supreme Law of the Land.” There was a separation of powers when the constitution was being created which resulted in the Legislative, Judicial, and Executive branches of government. During this time there was a meeting called the constitutional convention, where twelve of the thirteen colonies showed up. Two plans were debated during this process of creating the constitution, the New Jersey plan and the Virginia plan. Also happening as the constitution was being created and affect the outcome was the Connecticut compromise, where the two house legislature was made, the senate and house of representatives.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a woman who was denied entry to the World Anti-Slavery Movement because she was a woman. After being denied entry, Stanton realised that women should have just as many rights as men, including women’s suffrage (History.com Staff). When men and women are compared, neither one is greater than the other. We are all equal. Stanton shared the same views stating that we are all equal.
“From Antislavery to Womens Right”, is a document written by Angelina Grimke in 1838 devoted to the idea that a women's rights should not be depicted by a man. In the 1830’s female abolitionist noticed how women faced “legal economic disabilities to those facing enslaved African Americans. Grimke learning and fighting for the anti-slavery idea led her to understand the rights she had as a woman. She explains how the acceptance of slavery has dementalized womans no role in society. Angelina Grimke has a general broad audience but specifically tries to spark conversation and awareness, informing how women are so much more than a “pretty toy” that is whiled away in a man leisure moment.
The work is not yet complete, and is evident by looking at the domination of women throughout the centuries, specifically the 19th and 20th century, which was the height of the women’s rights movement. By analyzing two literary works from two different eras, “The Yellow Wallpaper” written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman in the late 19th century and “Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers” written by Adrienne Rich in the mid-20th century, one can conclude that while there have been improvements to women’s rights, there is still discrimination prevalent. Gender Equality Throughout America’s history, women have struggled to obtain basic human rights, gender equality, and general respect from men. These issues continue on into our current day-to-day life and will seem to continue for many years to come. In American literature, there are two women, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Sojourner Truth, amongst many, who voiced their struggles as women in America. Stanton’s piece, “Declaration of Sentiments”, is a revised version of the “Declaration of Independence”, and it outlines the many rights women have been withheld from.
When analyzing the characters of the Handmaid's Tale and the Scarlet Letter through the feminist lense, sexism has become so internalized that women work to maintain the system through prejudice and belittling one another for not fulfilling orthodox gender roles.

Truth disputes the arguments made by previous male speakers by countering not only their discrimination against women but also their prejudice against herself, a black woman. “Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain’t I a woman?” This shows how during the time period, men would say they wanted to protect women from society; however, they are only will to shelter white women from the brutality of society.
Romanticisim was a movement in literature and art which lasted from about 1789-1870 in Europe, North America and Latin America .The rising of Romanticism is associated with the Industrial Revolution, or with the American War of Independence and the French Revolution. Especially, the Industrial Revolution led to some technological and socio-economic-cultural changes at that period in the Europe. As a matter of fact that these changes invited to people to use of natural sources and the mass production of manufactured goods ,mankind obtained new skills and became a machine operator who was dependent on factory. After all,having control over nature and the ability of using resources gave a confidence to humanity. Thus,Romanticism was born as a reaction to mechanization of human life by evoking the emotional side of human and falsifiying reality.
The topic I chose to conduct my research on is the short story “The Story of an Hour”, by Kate Chopin. While reading this story the deeper meaning may not be initially apparent, but after some careful analyzation it is clear what led to Mrs. Mallard’s demise. I have chosen to conduct my research on “The Story of an Hour” because I previously studied it in my Intro to Fiction course last semester and it’s impactful message stood out. The deeper message being communicated through “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin is how oppression by patriarchal forces hinders female independence.
