Becoming a Social Worker The purpose of this paper is to research what the occupation of a social worker is; what specific skills and training a social worker must have; what the requirements are for Onondaga Community College and Syracuse University's undergraduate degree; and what someone can do at jamesville dewitt high school to improve their chances of becoming a social worker. Being a Social Worker The job definition of a social worker is work carried out by trained personnel with the aim of alleviating the conditions of those in need of help or welfare. The responsibilities and duties of a social worker are child, family, and school social workers assist parents, arrange adoptions, find foster homes, address teenage pregnancy, misbehavior, and truancy, advise teachers, respond to crisis situations (child abuse, mental health emergencies) and requires high stress tolerance, integrity, and self control. The graduation requirements are 22 credits and passing a science, a math, 2 history, and a ELA regents to get a Regents diploma (JDHS Course Guide, NP). The GPA for passing is a 2.0 but colleges look for a 3.0 of 3.75 (JDHS Course Guide, NP). To prepare for a Spanish minor three to four years of high school spanish have to be taken.
