Miss Julie is a play written in the late 19th century. This was during the time of "industrial revolution" which lead to the development of machines, in other words, reduction of human power and the use of hand tools. This revolution also lead to the societal division of gender roles. In the sense that there were certain behaviors, women and men could do in the society that was acceptable. Women were expected to think of themselves as weak, inability to make decisions, the need for a man to complete them and lead them to the right path. But on the other hand, when women try to break this gender role they are seen as insane, evil, and worthless.
