There are numerous forms of social norms in today's society, a norm is when something that is viewed as normal and casual. They provide us with ideas on how to behave, guide and direct our behavior in public and provides order in today's society. It’s odd because people expect other people to be normal and act a certain way while being in public. People do not expect other people to be weird or out there because they don’t think it is normal. They expect certain actions and behavior from people in specific situations. Breaking norms can have a major impact on a person's social life because it can make people very uncomfortable being around them and can mark them as “weird”, or different. We all made eye contact with the people around us and you’d think they would look away but they didn’t, some of them would give us a glare or roll their eyes. Another thing we found interesting was the reactions we got from the people we invaded. We didn’t think that the reactions would be drastically different but we were wrong. It’s interesting how society views men as tough, strong and serious, whereas girls are viewed as the total opposite.When it was male to male contact it was almost always looked at as hostile if not awkward. Furthermore, male to female contact was looked as suspicious or creepy. Nothing positive at all no matter the gender. Whereas female to male contact was also looked as awkward when there was an invasion of space. Kaylee was only brushed off in a normal manner except for when one male individual had asked for her number. Female to female invasion of space was a little awkward at times as well. But then again, they would just roll their eyes or give a glare. However, some girls would start small talk and actually make an effort to not make things awkward. It’s safe to say that females had different reactions than males did. The females received nicer gestures and responses, whereas the male received more rude and unaccepting
