America is killing itself from the inside out by accepting the social norm of fast food, ignoring harmful heath effects, and dragging her feet to approach a change in the perception of diet in general. In this paper I will discuss the history behind what we know as “fast food” and how it it pertains to our lives as Americans. In general, there will be certain facts presented that make fast food seem extremely detrimental to people while there are other facts that contribute to the commodification of the product. We actually have this notion that if we aren’t cooking the food ourselves, we are getting what we paid for through the service of others cooking the food. Here is where this notion is wrong. Yes, McDonald’s employs just about everyone who applies, which in turn should tell you the quality of the food you are receiving.
