In the graphic novel, American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang describes the life of an Asian American and how the petty stereotypes affect them. The main character’s cousin, Chin-kee, is supposed to show the readers what Asian stereotypes are and how people present it to others. In the graphic novel, Chin-kee always said stuff that was offensive to other Asians or Asian Americans, like “cat and noodle soup”. Chin-kee symbolizes Asian stereotypes in America. After the story of the Monkey God, Chin-kee was introduced as the Stereotypical Chinese man in America.
Education and Knowledge are power. Education entails not only learning from what is presented in the classroom, but also learning from personal experiences and the experiences of others. Education can provide the power to define one’s own life. In the novel Educated, Tara Westover realizes that she cannot be controlled forever. So therefore the theme of the novel is one must grow a sense of independence and identity or else one will always be treated with abuse and control.
Lastly, I liked this book because it gave me an insight of what my life could be like when I get to college. About halfway through the book I was questioning what the author was trying to portray. Honestly, I did not fully figure it out until the end of the book. Towards the beginning I thought that maybe it was going to be about him helping a very shy kid come into the light.
For our group and our shared love of food we figured that a social norm that had something to do with that would be perfect for us. We decided that the norm to drive through a drive thru needed to be tested. Why should cars be the only ones with the fast access to fast food at their convenience? We believed that people should be able to walk through the drive thrus if it is more convenient for them.

The social norm I chose to violate was scaring others at a haunted house; while many people were expecting to be scared, they were not expecting to be scared by somebody that they saw standing in line next to them.
