In a communist country you have the one leader who is in control of multiple other sub leaders, or taskmasters, who control the whole country Simon says in the book Lord of the flies, “...maybe there is a beast. ... What I mean is, maybe it's only us.”(89) He has started to realize that the people's own thoughts are the monster they have been fearing. William golding may have been referencing man's lust for power. Jack is the first to show this lust and as the book goes on he seeks to set himself up as a ruler over everybody else.

Ralph with his old democratic leadership style clashes with Jack’s unethical style to rule. Democratic power can be used to control a society, as well as establish a closeness as civilians. To lose sight of this can mean the corruption of a civilization caused by the lack of order. One’s choice of independence in order to better the chances of their survival requires complete dedication and willingness to risk. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, Ralph loses his democratic power due to his failure to ensure survival and protect the boys as a leader. Ralph’s failure to lead the group is due to his initial and chronic independence and inability to compete with Jack’s followers, accounted for mainly by fear.

The cliché saying that the ends justify the means is often quoted by those aware of the moral greyness of their actions. In the book Lord of the Flies, there were two small societies. The main one, which will be the one focused on, was made in the beginning. It was established with rules from the beginning. That then built the social hierarchy that is the group. There are different jobs and positions, these are what separates everybody and made the social hierarchy in Lord of the Flies.
Humans are inherently savage by nature and are thus moved by evil instincts. If not kept in check, these instincts could be catastrophic to society and others. If there is no society, people would try to dominate and control others based on their own instincts. The boys on the island become more savage and violent as they await rescue in Willam Golding's Lord of the Flies, which illustrates how humans are mainly moved by urges towards domination and brutality over others if their conduct is not kept in check.

The desire for power is one of the strongest human drives. In Lord of The Flies by William Golding there is a constant struggle for power between the main characters, Ralph, Jack, and Piggy. Ralph has power because he was voted chief and uses his power in an ugly way. Jack is struggling to get out of Ralph's power and gain his own power. The boys’ struggle for power is an ugly struggle and the author uses this to demonstrate the ugly struggle for power that is human nature.
