The ultimate goal is world peace. A place where there are no real threats of violence, gangs, war, or terrorism. There will never be the utopic society which is longed for. As in other subfields of psychology, social psychology is a huge piece of the world peace puzzle. However, social psychology will not be able to change the mindset of violence.
Cults, terrorism, war, and gangs are an unfortunate part of society. If society is as strong as its weakest link, then society is mostly weak. The violent groups prey on individuals who are younger, of lower intelligence and of lower self-esteem. These individuals are more persuadable than their opposites ( Rice University Openstax p. 423). Much to societies dismay, there is no way to change the conditions conducive to the breeding of violence completely. Massive amounts of education and psychology would be needed for those who are susceptible and live in the terrorist countries. Knowledge would not only be required for the individuals, but also for all in the world. Unfortunately, most do not listen nor do they want to hear the truth or do not believe the fact pertains to them or their loved ones. Education would have to start early and would have to continue until the end of time. Even then, until religious, political, prejudices, stereotypes and worldviews change on both an individual and societal basis, people do not like their belief system to be challenged. Anger mutates to unresolved anger then into helplessness and finally to violence. There is a sense of “helplessness…that gives birth to the suicide bomber” (ABC News, 2012). Getting ahead of the situation (religious, political, helplessness, prejudices. Etc) would be the key to the beginning of the end of violence. As Hassan
