Social activism and political reforms spread throughout United States during the 1800s and early 1900s. Progressives had many objectives they wanted to accomplish in order to have a better country as a whole. The objectives of the Progressives were to eliminate problems caused by industrialization, urbanization, immigration and corruption in the government. However, there were three specific problems that were present in American life. The problems were status of labor, abuse in industries, and less democracy. The status of labor during the Progressive era was brutal and inhumane. The working conditions in the early 1900s were cruel towards the workers.
