Would you like to positively affect the lives of many diverse individuals and families? There are many ways to do this but one of the most known is social work. Social workers help many people overcome their problems and find a reasonable solution. This paper will talk about aptitudes, aspects of the job, education, and university choices. It will also include information about salary and job outlook.
Some of the aptitudes that will help to become a social worker are to have lots empathy and compassion, to have interpersonal skills, to be able to communicate well, problem-solving skills. These are often referred to as the credentials. There are different levels and type of credentials such as voluntary credentials these often show professional commitment and represent a license plus. Often times the highly credentialed professionals fill higher positions within agencies that involve key leadership. This can often prove to be a big factor when it comes to salary. According to National Association of Social Workers “Credentialed social workers are recognized as having in-depth knowledge, proven work experience, leadership capacity, competence, and dedication to the social work profession (NASW Professional Social Work Credentials and Advanced Practice Specialty Credentials).” This passage shows that a social worker is thought of differently if they have high credentials. It can make a huge difference in many aspect of the job. There are many social worker jobs available all around the country and the need is growing. According to Occupational Outlook Handbook from 2014 to 2024 there will be as much as a 12% growth needed in the social worker field. Right know her are about 649,300 jobs for social worker. Locally the quotient is about.4-.8 and employment is 50 to 1,380. In North Dakota the average social worker makes anywhere from $48,950 to $65,380 a year. The work hours tend to vary. They offer a program where I could attend North Dakota State University and receive credits for it. My freshman year I would be taking classes such as college composition 1, fundamentals of public speaking, humanities course, composition 2, skills for academic success, american government, intro to family science, introduction to sociology, introduction to psychology, science elective, and introduction to HDRS. I would be able to start working on my generals while taking some other classes to help me get my degree. My sophomore, junior, and senior year I would be taking classes based around english, sociology, psychology, human growth and development, and marriage and family studies. This would help me to gain a lot of knowledge in the social worker field. It would also help me to gain experience while getting an education. I also really like the fact that I can attend NDSU for this through the MSU program. This would allow me to be much closer to my family and friends. For an undergraduate the annual tuition is $6,568. The total cost of living including tuition is about $12,450. There are many requirements for the social work program. One must complete specified social work classes and courses.
