Interest Statement Attending Capella University to obtain my MSW degree will put me one step closer to starting my social work career. I am interested in the Advance Standing MSW program with Capella University, because the program does not require you to have earned a BSW within a certain amount of years to be eligible for the program, and it will takes less time to complete the program. Most jobs in the social work field requires a person to have their Master’s and licensure. Earning a MSW degree will provide me with the skills, practice, and knowledge in becoming a geriatric social worker. In order to perform my daily duties, the agency must have internet access. Emailing, Skype IM, conference calls are the most effective ways to communicate throughout the agency. With pursing my degree online, having internet access is necessary to attend classes, submit assignments, and communicate with the professors and colleagues. I have a great support system. At times, being a caregiver can be overwhelming, and when I am overwhelmed, my uncle or aunt comes to relieve me. My mom and dad are always encouraging me to pursue my goals no matter what. My friends are always positive, even in tough times. My accomplishments and experiences have molded me to who I am today, which has prepared me for graduate school. I’ve always had a passion for helping people, especially children and the elderly population. In fact, I have been working with children quite some time now. I was a camp counselor. I tutored and assisted children with their homework and other assignments. I taught vacation Bible school. In my undergraduate field practicum, I worked with special need children. I chose nursing because of my passion for helping people. After my first semester, I discovered nursing was not the career for me. I decided to take a career assessment test to see what career would be best for me, and the result was social service. I changed my major to social work. In order to graduate on time, I had to get caught up with the curriculum. I attended two semesters of summer school, worked hard, studied much, and prioritized my time. My sophomore and junior year were very challenging due to an illness and the death of my grandfather. On both occasions, I managed to get my assignments done and made up any missed test. Also, I completed extra credit assignments. Hard work pays off. I graduated with honors holding a 3.1 GPA. While earning my MSW degree, I plan on continuing to work hard, study, and prioritize
