As a child, I was always fascinated by how things worked and fit together. Like many children, I often riddled my parents by asking them “Why?” I was never satisfied to know that something worked, I wanted to know how and what made it this way. Thankfully, my parents were patient with me and encouraged my questions. Fortunately, I never truly grew out of my childhood curiosity. I am still interested in learning all I can about everything around me.
While I had always been intrigued by science and engineering, my experience at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School (GNBVT) is a major factor in what has molded me into a prime candidate for success. My love for engineering grew immensely, and I became intrigued by coding and computer systems. I especially enjoyed being able to manipulate digital systems and, through robotics, see those systems have an impact on the physical world. GNBVT uses the curriculum from Project Lead the Way. PLTW is an organization determined to prepare STEM students for college workload and to maximize retention rates. These courses have given me the skills I need to not only survive college, but also have a successful career.

Regrettably, I have struggled with anxiety and depression for most of my young life. However, I found an outlet in coaching. Volunteering as a softball coach has helped me to overcome my mental illness. I began coaching softball when I was 15, and it helped me regain the confidence and sense of purpose that my depression had stolen. This passion for coaching drives me, as I have devoted over 580 hours to volunteering. I love being surrounded by impressionable ten year old girls who look up to me, and it is impossible not to smile around their silliness.
