Personal Statement

I have never had a fight in my life, not until I was forcefully beaten and being fired with tear gas by riot polices, that time I knew that I have to fight back. This is a glimpse of May 1998 massive student’s demonstration in Indonesia demanding for wholesale political and law reform that turned into the most violent protest the country had ever experienced. I was a first-year law student at that time with an impulse motivation for bringing about an end to the three decades President Soeharto's authoritarian rule along with its systemic form of injustice law structure. Taking part in the movement was my conscious effort to be part of the cause.

In the process of bringing their products and services to the marketplace, they face many challenge and hurdles, particularly concerning the legal aspects of a business. These groups often lack of legal knowledge and support which make them difficult to grow or ended up tangled with legal problems. Not many law firm respond to the small businesses legal need as it offers less money. I see the need to support small business as for me the practice of law is something more than just making money. It is also about making significant commitment to the community within which we practice. Support in legal services to public sector are much needed as well as the government is in the process of a large-scale transformation to achieve higher government productivity and better public services.

I am also planning to be more active in legal knowledge sharing movement through academic law teaching and off-campus workshop. I find that practical knowledge or experience sharing is important to address the gap between the theoretical concepts and what happens in the ‘real world’. I believe that the future generation of Indonesian people depends on how we, the current generation, can affect them with what we do now. I feel morally oblige to contribute in the legal education so that future generation have the legal knowledge they require to establish a fair and function legal system in
