Social Worker Career

I never thought I would considered a career in social work when thinking about what I want to study in College. Over the years I have realized that I like helping people, but my thoughts of what I wanted to be were indifferent. Towards the end of senior year in high school my counselor had my class do a career survey to see what our interest were. The most common choices for me were Nursing, Teaching, or becoming a Social Worker. After that I went on the Internet and researched as much as I could on each career choice. Nevertheless, at that point of my life I thought that being a social worker was the best career choice for me.

I would be interested in working in the school system because kid are away from parents, and I feel they would open up, and express themselves more freely.
Being a social worker requires you to have a few skills, and values to make every case you experience successful. The most important skills I would bring into this profession is Active listening, Self-awareness, Empathy, being opened-minded and the most important one of all is Communication. I feel that these skills are a necessity to the job, and will help me in every situation that comes my way. As well as some core value are social justice, dignity, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. These principles set forth ideals to which all social workers should aspire.
