Today people are judged based on the color of their skin and on their physical appearance. In the United States, especially, people are judged based on their skin color and because of the way they look. Usually people care about appearance because they believe in stereotypes and are grouped in many different ways. A lot of people are discriminated against in many different ways; for example, police brutality, racial discrimination, and colorism to name a few. The groups who are usually judged a lot are Latinos and African-Americans and that is because of the color of their skin.
People are More than a Color People in the world today are often found not to get along, because of different backgrounds of ethnicity. Many people will say they dislike someone because of their personality just to hide that on the inside they really disapprove of their color. It is best suited that social determinants are accorded the much-needed attention since they affect a number of people. In assessing the factors that affect one’s health, genetic disposition, personal behaviors, ability to obtain healthcare and the overall environment in which an individual resides are to be considered. Social determinants of Health are issues that deals with the conditions that people have found constructed in a society and acts as a parcel in their lives, such as; growth, age and some of the more complex systems that construct a society which include economic policies and their systems that include social norms, development goals and the basic political system that they are indulged under (World Health Organization, 2008).
Race, class, and culture can contributes to one belonging or isolation in society. Many people go through this everyday. Its like judging someone on what you think of them. Sociologists define race as a social construct because society has classified various groups of people based on physical characteristics such as skin color under the assumption that other characteristics would also be similar. This had occurred without any biological proof of correlation. This has also led to faulty belief systems such as racism, ethnocentrism, and the propensity for stereotyping. Fortunately, the intermarriages between races and subsequent procreation has helped cracked the facade of racial differences, at least those that aren't manufactured by society. The social construction of race has challenged our thinking and has made us think critically on how we subconsciously inherited society’s idea of norms and differences. We live our lives day by day without realizing that we have been given a predetermined outlook on how we view people because of their race. We gain these predispositions through the media, social interactions, family values and so forth. We chose this issue because we find it interesting that many people are unaware of this social construct, and that the outlook on difference of race can affect one’s actions. Using popular videos and articles in addition to our class readings, our paper will introduce the idea of social construction of race, and how it interrelates with concepts of critical thinking and diversity.

According to Snip, he explained why he believes that race is a social construction; he argued that race is being used to pursue social class and political desires. The survey provided an accurate basis for assessing the significance of race relations. The findings illustrated in The Black and White in America shows that more must be done to alleviate the social conditions that results from the color divide. This cultural lag is one of the major sources of social disorganization. In the United States skin color is one obvious difference and it apparent in the survey.

Researchers have linked the concept of “race” to the discourses of social Darwinism that in essence is a categorization of “types” of people, grouping them by biological and physical characteristics, most common one being skin pigmentation. Grouping people based on their physical traits has lead in time to the phenomenon of “racialization” (or race formation), as people began to see race as more of a social construct and not a result or a category of biology.
