Is Loyalty Seen Throughout Groups? There are many times in which power is exercised by people belonging to a specific group and by people of higher authority. This is seen through social and cultural norms, but it is actually not very obvious at all. People tend to overlook it because it is something in which they are just accustomed to. When people finally begin to see that things are not right, it begins an uproar put on by a particular group. This is seen in both films: The Black Panthers and Omar. When people in the group the Black Panthers and people in Omar’s group, the Jerusalem Brigade, finally see that things are not right they decide to fight back. There are many similarities and differences in the way the socio-cultural norms are presented, acted upon, and the way that things end for both groups. In The Black Panthers the most obvious socio-cultural norm is the treatment of African Americans by the police officers and by the white activists. It showed how and why the Black Panther organization was formed. It was formed to help protect African Americans that were being treated unfairly by the police force and by white men and women. This film gave real life footage and pictures of this brutality that the African Americans had to face everyday by everyone who did not like them. Some of these things included, being beaten in the streets, shot at, and just mistreated. It also showed how people felt when it was occurring and why they decided to join the Black Panthers. Even when their leader, Huey Newton, was arrested the other members of the Black Panthers still remained fighting for their rights, as well as, the freedom of Huey. This film also showed that other people, besides just African Americans, joined this group to fight for freedom and
