Sociological Analysis is where the focus is on social relationships, the examination of human interactions and personal relationships of an a group of individuals in a social setting. The concern of a sociological analysis is how groups and institutions function. Emile Durkheim is an important sociologist theorist and one of the founding fathers of French sociology. Durkheim offers an interesting insight on individuals and society. Emile Durkheim believes that everyone is “double”, meaning that we are all members of society and there society is in us. In a bureaucracy there is a hierarchy of authority. This is seen in the movie is the V-Dub gang. In this gang there is a leader that is extremely paranoid, and then there is the runner who are young male boys. Another example of bureaucracy is the Chinese mafia. Lincoln is one who has orders from an authority of someone in higher ranks them in. We never see the head of the mafia, just the fixer in one scene of the movie. V-Dub gang is an example of functionalism in society. This gang maintains an organization that is functional, even after the leader is murdered in a bathroom. There is a new leader the next day maintaining the group. Lifestyle is a term that covers a person's socioeconomic class and is reflected in “images”. The lifestyle of Nick and his family was demonstrated by clothes that they wore and what was stolen from them in a robbery (television, microwave, laptop, etc.). While K-Luv has a different lifestyle. His is one of commandeer amongst the fellow gang members. K-Luv is living in a two story has that is a bit dated in the furniture, and small, compared to the open space that is available at Nick's family home. Race is an important concept in the movie, because each male protagonist was of a different race. K-Love is an African American, Nick is White American and Lincoln is Asian. This is important to the movie, because the audience sees very different sides of crime. K-Love is a gang member and his violence is shown through taunting and a gun. While Nick is credit card fraud and drugs. Lastly there is Lincoln, who is part of the mafia. Race also plays a role later on in the movie when relationships start crossing amongst the characters.
