This research proposal will review different kinds of literature on the sociological impact of playing video games and its effect on the emotional well-being of the players. Video games were in the past used as a pastime by introverts, but it has now become a socialization tool (Badatala et al., 2016). Ancient arcade games such as pong and ping pong sought to emulate the real tennis, and this gave the players the thrill that they needed (Granic, Lobel & Engels, 2014). Pong was a single user game, and there was no interaction with other players (Granic et al., 2014). The player would only be required to put some coins in the machine and proceed with the game. Guins and Lowood (2016) argue that the console video games, however, limited the participation since they had to be physically present. Technological innovations have consequently fostered the rise of internet video games which can allow users to play using their smartphone devices and computers (Guins & Lowood, 2016). According to Blinka and Mikuška (2014) video games do indeed offer the right relaxing atmosphere and the need to experiment as opposed to other sports. Video games do not have to be confined to a particular age group, but they instead go with varying interests (Molyneux et al., 2015).
