Soft bedding should be provided such as towels and blankets to help keep the patient comfortable. All patients and especially patients with urinary incontinence should be provided with suitable bedding to draw the urine away such as:

ProFleece or Vet Bed - these have the ability to wick the liquid away from the patient keeping them dry. PVC mats – these are placed under the bedding and allows liquid to run through and help keep the patient out of the urine or spilt water.
Kylie blankets – help wick away wetness and are easily washable although they don’t offer sufficient padding on their own and must be used with other bedding materials.

- Trying canned foods with moisture as they are generally more palatable although some dogs that are fed dry food at home may prefer dry food.
- Try foods with a higher fat percentage as they are often tastier however if the patient has a disease it must be considered as it can contradict some conditions.
- Protein sources may be accepted more willingly
- Small amounts of sugar and salt can also be added to help increase palatability but must also be considered with any disease the patient may have.
- Heating the food to body temperature can help improve palatability it also can increase the aroma which affects taste perception and can increase palatability.
- Talk to the owner and suggest they bring the patients normal and favourite food to the clinic.

4) Assisted feeding may need to be carried out if necessary begin via feeding appetite stimulants, force feeding or enteral nutrition support via a feeding
