All throughout history women and black people have always been segregated. Whether it was race or gender, people were always cruel. Now imagine a black female. A black female slave who doesn’t believe slavery or any type of segregation is right. One powerful figure would be Sojourner Truth. She went on to show that one 's past does not define who they are and that a person has to stand up for what they believe in because if “ the first woman God ever made was strong enough to turn the world upside down, these women together ought to be able to turn it right again.” Sojourner Truth was born around 1797 given the name Isabella Baumfree by her parents, James and Elizabeth Baumfree.
