Sojourner Truth was one of the most zealous spokeswoman of women's rights in her lifetime because she inspired not only black women but also white women to stand up for suffrage and the rights of black people. Sojourner Truth was a significant historical figure and a ideogram for equality. Truth made a powerful character for herself as a women's suffragist and a black rights advocate. She is mainly remember for her public speeches. Such as her famous speech at a women’s rights convention in Akron, Ohio, in 1825.Her speech demanded equal rights for all women, black and white, who were going through the unjust laws of the early suffrage movements in America.
Sojourner Truth was born into slavery in 1797 in a Dutch and French farming community in New York State, with her father James Baumfree and her mother Elizabeth Baumfree. Since she worked as a domestic in New York households for many years and attended church meetings and spiritual gatherings, she was able to acquire the skills to become a public speaker and preacher. Through her travelings Truth made her way to Massachusetts, where she came in contact with the Northampton Association. The Northampton Association was an association of reformers, abolitionists, and women's rights supporters. This association led Truth to embrace the principles of abolitionism and equal rights. She began to refocused her lectures to reflect these newfound beliefs. Her powerful style and honest message eventually built her a formidable reputation on the antislavery-feminist lecture circuit.
