The movie “12 years a slave” is based upon a personal memoir from the 19th century. Within the story it mainly starts out with his current, enslaved situation. After a little while it goes back to how his life was before being caught within the human trafficking ring. His name was Solomon Northup. He was a very talented violinist and was hired to preform shows as his work. He lived with his wife and 3 children in New York. One day He was taken aside to speak to Mr. Brown and a Mr. Hamilton about possible work as part of a circus act. He spoke and had drinks with the gentlemen to associate and discuss the possibilities. He gets sick and they help him into a hotel room so he could rest it off. Not to his knowledge, they were a part of a human trafficking ring. …show more content…

Solomon was overwhelmed with a sense of hopelessness once he realized. He had been kidnapped and was being prepped to be sold off. He’s placed up with two other men, a little boy and his unsuspecting mother. They get placed upon steamboats to be shipped off to slave states. Solomon and two others are arguing and disgusting what they should do and how to survive. One gets stabbed later and thrown overboard the boat after he died from his wound. Once they’ve finally docked, they were all getting prepared to be sold off. But one of the men’s masters showed up to claim him. Slowly on and on throughout here, more will dishearten him further. Solomon called out to that man but to no avail, everyone had a sense of desperation. From this point on he had to respond as “Platt” for it was his slave
