Chapter 1
Solomon Northup’s life as a freeman in New York is of a man who is trying to better himself in every aspect of life and give his family a joyous life. He also enjoys the luxuries of being a freeman. He works on agriculture, canals, rail roads, navigation, Hack driver and occasionally plays the violin. Solomon interacts with slaves during the time he lived at the United States hotel but is rather blind to the cruel world of slavery by the appearance and lifestyle off the fields of the slaves.
