Symbols play a huge role in this book, there are many different symbols but three major ones. The big ones I choose from the book is Soma, a rose, and also a book. The Soma symbolizes happiness. The rose symbolizes beauty and the book symbolizes knowledge. Each one symbols something different and make an impact. Soma, a rose, and a book all have different powerful meanings to the book.
Firstly Soma, is a symbol for fake happiness. It is a drug that many of the book characters use and it also kills people. John the Savage from book sells the drug to people before his mother Lenia died from the drug. Benard who is in love with Lenia takes a daily dose of Soma because he is extremely addicted to. The rose symbolizes beauty because if you look at a rose most people would say that is beautiful or if you surprise your date with them it's an automatic thing to say these are beautiful! It's the same deal in the book you see the people of the hatchery the would put a rose out and they would bring infants in. As the automatic reaction to the beautiful rose the infant would try and touch it and the would shock the infant. Why because they were trying to get them to grow up and be afraid of beauty and everything about it. Do not get attracted to beauty in this book!
Lastly the final symbol is a book. The book is the symbol of knowledge as we all know. It is the thing we open in read to get entertainment, knowledge and you also can get emotions from it depending on what you are reading. Reading is something that comes in every day and in the book when you are reading they have all this scientific knowledge on how to make test tube babies and how to raise them to take control of the world. But you see the thing is the people of the hatchey do the same thing that they do with rose. They bring the infant's out and put a book in front of them if the infant tries to touch they would shock the infant because they want them to grow up fearing knowledge.
