The Song of Solomon is the supreme example of the poetic book of the Wisdom literature of the Old Testament. Among readers, this book is known by three names: The Song of Solomon, The Song of Songs, and Canticles. The title seems to indicate Solomonic authorship, but there are numbers of alternative interpretations. It could indicate authorship ″by Solomon″ or be a dedication ″to Solomon″. The issue of the authorship will probably never receive a define answer, as well as the date of creation, which is uncertain. The Song of Solomon is a collection of poems celebrating the sexual nature of love between a man and a woman. It was admitted to the biblical canon as an allegory of passionate and sensuous love, embodying God 's love for Israel. It is all about love, which is the main motif of this poem. When we think of a poem, we often think of words that have a certain meter and rhyme, but it is not so simple in the Song. One such device is the ″poetic symbol″, in which the characters take on roles for literary purposes. In Egyptian love poetry, poetic symbols include the man as bird catcher or as door keeper in the woman 's home (Fox, 1985). In Song of Songs there are two poetic symbols. ″King″ and ″shepherd″ both of which are referred to the man. Take a look back at verse 4: ″The King is in his bed chambers...″. He is a king in verse 4, a shepherd in verses 7 and 8, and a king again in verse 12. Is he a king, or is he a shepherd? When he is at home, he is a king, ″while the king is on his couch″ (11:38). That is because his wife understands that her man does not need the same things she does, so she wants to give him what he needs. What he needs is her love, attention and honor for
