In Song of Solomon written by Toni Morrison the characters all face racism everyday. My reaction to the characters is that they are strange especially their names. The one thing that freaked me out was the characters last name “Dead”. I think the reason it somewhat scared me is because dead has a negative feeling and in most occasion is used as a negative thing, but in this novel the characters are proud of their last names. My emotions for these pages are kind of sad and disgusted; my emotions are basically all over the place. I understand that the characters believe milkman isn’t fully there but many of the things he does are inappropriate and disgusting. Guitar confesses everything to Milkman saying that he is a member of the seven days. When Guitar confesses and Milkman asks why he does it and what is in it for him. I begun to feel upset because Guitar say that he kills any white person there’s no innocent people and that he does it for African Americans. There is nothing in it for him, he can never get married, have a family, or anything, and he can never love anything. Milkman character matures and says that he is a fool and that isn’t a life to live, why would anyone want a life like that with no love. Guitar tells Milkman that he can’t kill African Americans, and that killing is becoming a habit to him. I feel really bad for Guitar because I feel like no one has ever showed him how to love or what love feels like. Guitar its angry about being black or having an African American name but he is mad because the slave statue that African Americans have. He is tried of people treating African Americans like slaves. Since Guitar killing is becoming a habit, he is thinking about how to bomb a white church. The characters change because Guitar and Milkman decide to steal from Pilate house. They steal the money that she kept because Milkman wanted to be free from his father and Guitar was undecided on what to do with it.
