It’s important to note that the Hebrew book, Song of Solomon has another name which is commonly used; Song of Songs. The title of this book means “the most beautiful of songs” or a superlative, unmatched piece.
This book comes after Psalms and Proverbs in the Old Testament and is a full collection of songs, or poems, in which a woman and a man tell about their love for each other. Sometimes they are speaking to themselves, sometimes to each other or to friends and in some of the poems they seem to be remembering earlier times in their relationship.

The Song of Solomon contains a large proportion of romance. People read it and dream about it. We each hope that someone wonderful will meet us and share passionate, lasting love with us. It is a surprising book because we don’t see much explicit romantic language in the bible, this is an exceptional case. The book is primarily about love and this has worried people. It is It uses rather graphic imagery and language and we can see this in the whole book, but one striking verse is Song of Solomon 4 vs 3 “Your lips are like a scarlet thread, and your mouth is lovely. Your cheeks are like halves of a pomegranate behind your veil.” and vs 5 “Your two breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle, that graze among the lilies.” The way the pomegranate is described is a metaphor picking up on the beautiful colour of either the skin or the texture of the flesh of this fruit. The fawns meaning young deer refers to the youthful appearance of her two breasts. The gazelle refers to her appealingly sleek
