Before mother passed away she expressed concern about her boys. She said, “You got to hold on to your brother, and don’t let him fall.” At the time it didn’t seem all that important, because she wasn’t supposed to die so soon. Losing mother was unexpected, and that meant the responsibility to make sure mom’s boys would be okay was left to the big brother. Big brother was not prepared for this overwhelming responsibility. What would be the best thing for the family? Sonny, there seemed to only be one choice, to stay and finish school. The idea of leaving and the thought of losing Sonny to the military was a scary idea. At that time listening to any other ideas was not an option. Failure took over the mind, realizing that the promise to mom was not kept and he had let her down. Now that Sonny Fahring 2 is out, there is an opportunity to make things right between the two brothers. The night that changed the eyes of big brother was the night Sonny played the piano for him. Still not sure if going to the club and listening was a great idea, but was surprised of what was learned. When walking in the club and seeing others recognize Sonny as a musician in front of big brother’s own eyes. It became real that Sonny actually might be good at this and that this makes him very happy.
As Sonny was playing, “Freedom Lurked Around Us” and then the feeling of freedom overtook the atmosphere. Understanding of the pain Sonny went through in life was made clear through the music and the underlying tone to the notes. The past crept up, visions of their mother and father, daughter Grace and wife Isabel’s tears came back in that instant.
