I am preparing for a career as a Medical Sonographer. In order to reach this goal, I have several steps that I have to complete to get there. In the below paragraphs I will discuss these steps. Along with how I think technological advances will affect my career and educational goals in both the near and distant future. My childhood initiated a desire to help prevent and mitigate injury or illness; this soon flourished into an interest in the health care field. To help narrow my choices I explored as many science courses as I could. Talking with health care professionals and reading nursing textbooks I found in my aunt’s house piqued my interest in the nursing field and patient care. From there, I completed a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course which further solidified my decision. Now, I am fully invested in becoming a nurse.
OBGYN Ultrasound Technician How rewarding would it be to have the opportunity to get to experience a mother and father seeing their unborn child for the very first time? To get to be the person whom informs parents of the gender of their baby, which they have anxiously been waiting for. I don’t believe there could be a greater feeling in the world than being there and sharing that excitement that people anticipate about their entire lives. I grew up in a gym, bred to be a boxer, and have been immersed in the ever-changing “fight game” for as long as I can remember. I have been surrounded by the smell of Icy Hot and medical tape in locker rooms, watching other boxers try to mend shoulder, knuckle and knee injuries. Out of curiosity, I have asked the injured athletes if they knew anyone who helped treat their torn ligaments and hyperextended muscles. Routinely, they all responded, “a physiatrist." This memory was how I first learned about the most interesting career in the medical field.
This week I had the opportunity to spend some time in both the OR and Endoscopy unit. Going into the practice days I was excited and optimistic about what I was going to take away from the experience, as I considered my possible future in working in the operative setting. However, by the second day of practice, I realized that I wasn’t overly excited about either of the units and that the expectations I had set out, didn’t quite match up like I had hoped. Even though I don’t feel as though nursing in either of the units is for me, I was able to take away new knowledge that I believe has enhanced my overall nursing practice.
I will soon hold a Bachelor degree in Communication Disorders and my studies have taught me how to communicate with individuals from all backgrounds, professions, and social classes. It taught me sympathy and understanding of human interaction. My long term goal is to work with school aged children and young adults as a speech-language pathologist. I have experience in interacting favorably and effectively with children of a wide range and enjoy doing so. I belong in an educational environment and would like to continue on to the school system and contribute to the success of school aged children and young adults.
Becoming an Anesthesia Assistant would allow me to work as a healthcare professional, help people in their time of need, and have an increasingly dynamic career. I know that my attention to detail, creativity, and critical thinking capacity developed over years working in the medical field make me an ideal candidate for the Master’s of Medical Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant program at Emory University. As my life progresses, I have created a desire for a profession that offers a varied assortment of opportunities. I find it gratifying to have a career that is not only rewarding for caring for surgical patients, but also the attraction of a career that is a life long learning process. The attractiveness of a career with different possibilities and education expansion is energizing and motivational.
My future career objective is to become an Anesthesiologist. Anesthesiologist play an important role in patients which are undergoing surgery or any other medical procedure. They often included in the process before, during, and after the procedure by determining the exact appropriate amount of anesthesia a patient receives. During surgery, it is essential that they monitor a patient’s overall health and the reaction the patient gives off to the anesthetic that is given. A typical day for an Anesthesiologist revolves around a busy schedule.
For the majority of people, pursuing a career in the medical field is a career which should be avoided at all costs. Whether this profession is a surgeon, a nurse, or a psychiatrist, the long hours of study and work (which are necessary for these occupations), are not in most people’s definition of a “fun job.” In addition, after the long years of study come to an end, the most feared moments arise, the time to pay student loans. Nevertheless, none of these obstacles intimidated Juan Delgado in order to pursue his dream as a healthcare professional, more importantly, to help our community.
