Source Connections: Articles and Books A place full of questions and the unordinary, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury is a dystopian novel which follows main character Guy Montag. In this book, the reader follows Guy Montag as he encounters Clarrise McClennen, who makes him question his life. The following articles help the reader delve deeper and further understand some of the themes covered in the first 21 pages. The “Is Social Networking Destroying Our Social Lives?”, “Suicide Rates Rise Sharply In U.S.”, and lastly, “What Makes People Happy?”. The article is about the suicide rates of middle-aged adults increasing. Over the years, more middle-aged adults have committed or attempted suicide. In the book, Guy Montag comes home to his wife “sleeping”. As he accidentally kicks something on the floor, he pulls out a lighter and uses the flame to see what he had kicked. Once his eyes spot the object, his whole world comes crashing down. “The small crystal bottle of sleeping tablets which earlier today had been filled with thirty capsules and which now lay uncapped and empty in the light of the tiny flare.” (Bradbury, 11) Mildred had overdosed on sleeping tablets. Once the emergency people came and they were helping Mildred, Montag questioned why they hadn’t sent an M.D. “We get these cases nine or ten a night.
