I applied to the University of Southern California’s summer college program since it is known for its great architecture program. Attending the summer program will allow me to have insight on the University of Southern California, which is where I am applying to in the future. I want to major in architecture because it encompasses the art and science of designing with the construction of buildings. Being able to take the engineering course will help because it is a big part in architecture since it is used for the stability of buildings and makes sure the architecture’s design is sustainable. I am very passionate and make sure to take my time to perfect my projects. Everytime I see structures, furniture, or clothing, I feel an urge to change something about it. Most summers, I observe and help my uncle, who is a architect, with his projects on houses. He would give insight on what he desires to achieve, show me blueprints of structures he built, and what the different materials that are needed for the stability of buildings. I have helped him with interior designing and built parts of the house such as assembling floorboards. My dad purchases old houses and buildings then reforms them to be newer and more appealing to sell. He taught me that it is critical to have an understanding of the location before buying an old building in order to know if the price will rise when reselling it, what kind of design is suitable for buyers, and the price range people in the area can afford. My dad informs me on the houses and buildings he buys and how he plans to do to rebuild it. Sometimes I help him with the interior design, what to change about the structure, and help him decide on whether or not he should buy it. Being able to be part of this summer program will also make my dad and uncle proud since they inspired and increased my interest in architecture.
